Living Word Christian School Orchestra Program
Orchestra is offered at both the high school and middle school level.
- Beginning students will learn the necessary mechanics to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass, and to read music in the appropriate clef for their chosen instrument.
- Advanced students will build upon existing mechanics to enhance both playing technique and musical interpretation.
At all levels, students will have opportunites to play alone in front of others, and to perform as a group. Throughout the year, they will build friendships and support one another as they develop as an ensemble.
Music can help us express feelings that are difficult to put into words. It is a powerful tool we can use to worship God individually, as well as lead others in corporate worship. Psalm 108: 1, 2 tells us “My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul. Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.” We learn in Nehemiah 12: 27 that “At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived and were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals, harps, and lyres.”
